Speaker test - left, right and both
Play sound on the left speaker, the right speaker or both, and sweep the tones from deep bass to high treble to find a dead, blown or rattling speaker. Works for laptop speakers, headphones and phones.
Turn your device volume to about half, then press a button.
Reading the speaker test
- Sound only from one side - the other speaker, its cable or connector is faulty (or the Windows balance is shifted: Sound settings → speaker properties → Levels → Balance).
- Buzzing or rattling during the sweep - note the frequency where it happens. Rattling at low tones = a torn speaker cone or a loose part; distortion everywhere = a blown speaker or a faulty amplifier.
- No sound on both - check mute, the selected output device and headphones. If headphones work but speakers don't, it's the speakers, their cable, or the amplifier on the board.
- Many phones and small laptops have only one real speaker - "left" and "right" then come from the same place.
